Two weeks ago, the Medical Halacha Committee hosted a Question Answer session with Rabbi Dr. Howard Apfel. Rabbi Apfel is both a pediatric cardiologist at Columbia, as well as a Rebbi at Torat Shraaga. With more than 75 attendees, Rabbi Apfel tackled a full range of questions, ranging from shomer shabbos residencies to how to deal with a ‘goses’. Rabbi Apfel emphasized that while being a doctor may pose many religious challenges that one must prepare him or herself for, the ability to save lives is a tremendous Mitzvah that should be revered.
